Gender/Pronouns: Male; He/Him
Birthdate/Age: December 8 / 18 (Sagittarius)

Major Arcana: The Devil
Minor Arcana: Wands

Concept: The devil on your shoulder yelling to do it for the Vine.

APPEARANCE

Height:6'4Hair Color:Box dyed auburn that quickly fades to orange (Naturally brown)
Build:SwoleEye Color:Brown
The most eye-catching thing about Russ is his build. He stands at a towering 6'4 with a muscular frame he's more than eager to show off. Confidence exudes from him, seen in the way he carries himself and in his bright and easy smile. If he weren't so self-assured and unabashedly overly-comfortable with himself, he might have some sense of shame in his poor aesthetic choices. Instead, he revels in it.

Russ likes flashy and he likes standing out in a crowd. Anything weird and wonderful has a place in his heart and in his wardrobe, but he favors aliens, galaxies, and clothing that lights up or glows the most. He owns several pairs of well-loved light up shoes and shirts with LEDs in them.

That's not to say he's particularly picky about his clothing and fashion choices. Russell's just as likely to go out in public wearing an unwashed t-shirt, sweatpants, and flip flops as he is to stroll around in Tumblr Hipster Chic.

When it comes to his uniform, Russ is awfully fond of it and wears it by the rules. Not necessarily out of respect, but because school uniforms are still a novelty to him and he thinks everybody looks so cute and dapper in them. He likes to try out different uniform styles, but his favorite combination will always be the stuffiest: slacks, sweater vest, and a buttoned up blazer.

Being a teenager and naturally wanting to rebel, he has a few self-inflicted (or friend-inflicted) body modifications and a few professionally done ones, with more planned once he turns eighteen. Both his earlobes have small gauges in them, both ears have two helix piercings each, and there is an industrial piercing in his right ear. Russ planned for both, but he was immediately filled with regret after the first ear was punctured.

Not one to easily learn from his mistakes, he has a shitty stick-and-poke tattoo in the shape of what was supposed to be an alien. One of his friends gave it to him last year and it ended up getting infected because they're absolute idiots.
There are two tattoos he's had done professionally: a medium sized Samoan design on his right shoulder and a trident on his left pinkie finger. His mother shares a matching trident tattoo with him.

ETC:
  • He looks a lot older than he actually is and started growing in facial hair at fourteen.
  • His nose has been broken so many times from instigating fist fights, it's a little uneven. The scar between his brows is from throwing knife practice with his brothers and he has several other scars on his body from similar Jackass-esque instances.

    PB: KJ Apa

  • PERSONALITY

Likes: DOGS!!!!, FIGHTIN' SHADOWS!!!, astronomy, ALIENS, music, sports, PARTIES PARTIES PARTIES, video games, Monsters, booze and smokes, shitposting, drawing, fist fighting, math, roleplaying/story telling

Dislikes: COLD WEATHER :(, being ignored or overlooked, busy work as homework, homework in general tbh, feet, unnecessarily mean and prickly people

    ---

Russ is friendly to the point of being overly friendly. He's easy to get along with, outrageously and noncommittally flirtatious, and boasts a wide circle of friends. Essentially, he is the stereotypical example of an extrovert: boisterous, playful, shameless, and attention-starved. He's happiest when he's in the limelight and he tries to do anything in his power to draw attention to himself and entertain, including acting out of line for laughs.

Friendly doesn't always mean nice. Sometimes the jokes go too far, sometimes he knows when to leave well enough alone but purposefully doesn't, sometimes he just likes to tease because it's easy sport. Banter is fun and Russ likes fun. If it escalates into a physical fight, then that's fun too! He has been known to purposefully provoke other boys into throwing the first punch and then wail on them until one of them walks away with a nosebleed. By now, it's no secret that he's very much into that and it's best to avoid a fight with Russ unless they're fine with being fantasy fodder.

Which leads to Russ's utter shamelessness. Russ has a tendency to overshare, even when nobody's asked and nobody really wants to hear it, and he doesn't really care to hide the intimate details of his life unless it's to respect another person's privacy. For the most part, he exists as an open book: he has little to hide and even hidden motives don't stay hidden for very long before he casually announces them.

To friends of Russ, sometimes this honesty can serve as a double-edged sword. On one hand, they can expect him to be generally honest and open in communication with them, but sometimes his honesty stings when the truth isn't what they were looking for. Russ is a fan of heart-to-hearts as much as he is of banter, and even though he barely has his own shit together, he's happy to help a friend (or even a not-friend) work through their own problems. He'd much rather give advice than take advice, and he's fully-- okay, mostly confident in being able to handle his own bad decisions. As long as he's self-aware enough to recognize his own poor choices, then it's fine to make those poor choices, right?

In all, Russ does care deeply about people and the love he has for humanity makes fighting Shadows and saving the world all the more rewarding. If it came to it, he'd gladly give his life to protect others and each venture into the Shadow World is an acceptance of that. There are very few things that genuinely terrify Russ and some mix of bravery, passion, and plain foolhardiness regularly drives him unflinchingly toward danger. Scars have marred his body long before any of this Shadow business and he's not afraid to earn a few more.

    SKILLS

[Languages]: Russ has a passion for languages and studied several over the years, which suits his sociable nature. He knows bits and pieces of many languages and picks up on them pretty quickly, but the main ones are:

Spanish (Fluent). Hawaiian (Conversational). Samoan (Conversational). Japanese (Conversational, spoken only and tourist-focused).
[Music]: Guitar, keyboard, and the theremin are the three instruments he's most proficient in although he's practiced several under his father's guidance. He's not great with wind instruments, but thinks it's Top Quality Humor to play them badly. A few years ago, he bought Rolo's Launchpad and his brother taught him how to use it.

He has a very nice singing voice as well. When he graduates, he hopes the headmaster's influence can give him a boost in the music biz.
[Petting dogs]: Big hands made for big pets!!!!
[Card games]: Poker, blackjack, rummy, Magic the Gathering, you name it. If there's cards and numbers and stats to keep up with, he's good at it. And of course gambling's one of the many vices he has.
[Surfing]: HELL yeah!!! He loves all sorts of aquatic recreation, those sports in the water, but surfing was always his best and favorite.
[Sportsball]: Russ is a jock. He played football as a quarterback all throughout middle school and high school, up until he came to Finchwood. He's pretty good at other sportsballs and played a lot of soccer and basketball growing up.
[Fisticuffs]: Lotta fights, lotta punches thrown. Nothin' better than a good brawl.

    HISTORY

    Family:

Apikalia Reeve; Mother; 50; Marine Biologist in Honolulu. Dating a fancy professor from the UK.
Laki Reeve; Father; 49; Musical comedian in Las Vegas. He makes a lot more money now, but has a gambling problem and doesn't hold onto it for long.
Reese Reeve; Brother; 27; Marine Veterinarian. The only good child. Married with, like, a million (6) kids.
Rolo Reeve; Brother; 24; Soundcloud artist. Disaster Brother™ who makes everyone else look better in comparison. Calls himself Yolo.
Riesen Reeve; Brother; 21; Bandcamp artist. His band is better and way more successful than Rolo's. Spells his name as "Reason" because it's Hip and also so nobody knows his parents named him after shitty chocolate.

Hometown: Honolulu, HI (Primary) and Las Vegas, NV

Russ was the fourth child born to parents who could barely afford the first. They were high school sweethearts who were eager for a big family, but raising four children in an area with unreasonably high living costs meant money was tight and luxuries were few and far between. They could have relocated-- Laki preferred the mainland and thought he would have more opportunities with his music there-- but Apika was in love with her island and the marine life, and Laki was in love with her. So they stayed.

They weren't very financially comfortable, but they were happy. Laki and Api had a very relaxed and laissez-faire parenting style and loved and supported their children unconditionally. The brothers were encouraged to pursue and explore their interests, which fostered their creative spirits and gave them unshakable confidence in themselves. However, four young boys left to roam free with no rules or structure meant their fondness for mischief often lead them into trouble and it was usually up to Reese to step in as the parent.

All the boys studied music with their father and Russ was no exception. They couldn't afford to own a lot of instruments, but the studio where Laki worked as a jingle writer had plenty of them to choose from. Laki had an incredible talent in music and a lot of patience to teach Russ any of the instruments that struck his fancy.

It was never much of a secret that Laki didn't care for the island life anymore, or that he felt he wasn't living up to his full potential. It became a strain on his mental health until he slipped into a deep depression. Apikalia gently encouraged him to pursue new opportunities on the mainland, even if it meant he was setting off on a new adventure without her. They lived separately for roughly a year and a half and finally divorced when Russ was twelve. It was an amicable split and they remained in contact, and Russ was really jazzed each time his father bought him and his brothers plane tickets to come visit him in Vegas. And with his new career taking off, he could easily afford it and more. For Russ, Vegas became synonymous with success and luxury, with dreams becoming a reality. The divorce was the best thing to ever happen to him.

Summers and breaks were spent in Vegas and he continued schooling in Honolulu, where he already had a large, established friend group. He was handsome, popular, and had a devilish charm that drew people in despite their better judgement. It became a dangerous trait as he grew older and better learned how to wield it; the proverbial devil on the shoulder, coaxing bad choices out of weak willed classmates. He never forced or pressured, only gave them assurance about things they knew they wanted deep in their hearts. "We're here for a good time, not a long time," was his mantra.

Anyway, that's how he ended up forming an underground Fight Club comprised of students from different Honolulu County high schools. What they wanted wasn't wrong if it felt good and wasn't hurting anybody-- well, technically the point was to hurt somebody, but consensually. Break free from the shackles of societal expectations, live your truth, find your happiness, etc, etc.

It wasn't even Fight Club that got him in trouble in the end. It was gambling. Whoever could stomach the most shots of vinegar was the winner, with spectators encouraged to place their bets on who they thought would last the longest. It was stupid to do it at lunchtime and the noise from the crowd gathered around drew the attention of the staff. Busted.

The punishment could have been a lot worse if his counselor hadn't seen some gleam of potential in the boy. He was well-liked, his math scores were high, he was a talented musician, he had a knack for languages, and he was awfully clever when he applied himself. More structure would suit him well, she said, and a brand new boarding school in Maine was accepting applications. If he would agree to put a genuine effort into an application to Finchwood, he could walk away with a slap on the wrist. It sounded like an easy out to Russ and he was certain some hoity-toity New England boarding school would reject him on the spot, so there was really nothing to lose.

Until he received a letter of acceptance, and he was suddenly faced with a hard choice. Finchwood offered better resources and brand new opportunities. And maybe he did need structure to reach his full potential, and maybe a change of setting would be good for him, and maybe a new adventure on the mainland could be fun.

So he accepted. And, boyyyyy, what a great day it was when he learned he was now enrolled in Fight School. Fight School ft. Dogs. Getting caught gambling was the best thing to happen to him since his parents' divorce.

The New Russ™ who was determined to live up to his Potential™ now that he had Structure™ lasted about two weeks before reverting to his old ways. It was hard to focus on boring subjects like English when there were so many new classmates to socialize with, and it was hard to remember to do his homework when there were so many new places to explore! Also dogs??? To pet??? And training dummies??? To destroy??? And new faces??? To kiss???

Russ had a blast his first year, and although his grades in his core classes weren't as good as they could've been, he felt he shined on the training grounds and proved his worth to the school as a fighter even if he wasn't much of a scholar. Yet despite his confidence in his fighting skills, he still gawked at his name displayed on the list of new leaders for the second year. So maybe this is what it means to live up to his full potential.

    MISC:
  • Russ is left handed.
  • From ages six to nine, he played in a band with his brothers called "Da Kokoleka Bruddahz". The Reeves were trying to ride the Jonas Brother hype train and cash in on the "Aww" factor of wholesome brotherly love. They became local short-lived clebrities, but gained very little attention elsewhere. Their homemade music videos are still on Youtube.

    Persona: Reiyel (Liberation)
    Element: Lightning
    BATTLE STATS

    ACADEMICS

Core Classes: English, Mathematics*, Science, Social Studies, Training

Elective Classes: Music, Shop, Art, Leadership

Clubs: Choir, Dance, Drama, Gaming, Athletics

    General Performance:
Russ is academically underachieving. Homework seems a lot less pressing now that he's a teenage superhero-- not that it seemed very pressing to him before all of this Shadow business, but now he has a better excuse for slacking. It's not uncommon to see him rushing to finish his homework ten minutes before class, or cozying up to an overachieving kid for "help", or just shrugging it off entirely.

That's not to say he's completely stupid, he just… doesn't really care to put in the effort when it's something he's not interested in. And most of the required core classes just aren't that interesting. He's surprisingly adept at mathematics and has a particular interest in astronomy and astrophysics (which he studies on the side for Fun), but English sucks and Social Studies' saving grace is that the teacher is cute and Russ has a disgustingly soft spot for him, making him eager to please.

Elective classes are where Russ really shines, partly because they're easy, partly because he actually got to choose them and it feels like way less of a chore when it's a subject he has interest in. Music is his favorite class next to training, although he doesn't really count the latter as a class. He also really enjoys art, but his artwork is mediocre on a good day and absolute garbage the rest of the time. But points for effort, right, Ms. Kowalczyk?
